A group of pupils from Minsthorpe Secondary School wrote to the band asking them to play a gig at their school, following a favourite band poll in which The House Of Love came first (with 96% of votes, ahead of U2, Bruce Springsteen and Pink Floyd). Sensing great publicity and wanting to do the gig, the band obliged, as a result getting good press coverage including the NME, Melody Maker, The Independent and a full page in UK teen pop magazine Smash Hits.
Situated between Doncaster and Pontefract, the school had recently hosted a Cud gig for charity. The House Of Love event raised £1,000 for the school minibus appeal.
