Presumably a final warm-up for the next day’s all-important ‘Doing It For The Kids’ Creation event at the Town & Country Club.
A full audience recording of this gig is available on YouTube.
“The ‘ticket’ – can we assume that I was the 336th person through the door? I’m not so sure. It was absolutely packed – yeah, maybe. We actually arrived very early but being a balmy summer evening we sat outside for ages just watching people file in. I distinctly remember that Crocodiles, the first Echo & The Bunnymen album, was on the soundsystem when i entered the room – I had this amazing ‘This is IT… this is COOL… I have arrived’ feeling as I made my way to the bar and my usual concern over being served was blown away by crocodile smiles. A cutting from the Basingstoke Gazette which would have been published the Friday after the gig. Why I didn’t save the actual review itself is a mystery. I love this photo. It was my first HOL gig. I was 16. I really gets to me that 16 year old kids in 2020/2021 have been deprived of such experiences.” Rob Horrocks
