This mini-tour of the Netherlands supporting the Bunnymen and Triffids was almost certainly the first set of gigs as a four-piece, following third guitarist and vocalist Andrea Heukamp’s departure. Her last gig was most likely Manchester Boardwalk, nine days earlier.
The set list is likely missing three or four songs, probably I Don’t Know Why I Love You Like I Do, and Love In A Car, and Road and/or The Hill (Guy taking over Andrea’s vocals). In this case this gig would be the first known gig to include I Don’t Know Why I Love You Like I Do (a distinctly different song to 1989 single I Don’t Know Why I Love You), and the first introduction of Love In A Car to the live set.
I Don’t Know Why I Love You Like I Do remained unreleased until 2012 when it appeared as a bonus live track on Cherry Red’s remastered deluxe reissue of the debut album.
Additional songs from this gig appeared as bonus live tracks on Cherry Red’s 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition 5xCD box set of the debut album.
