“The gig on 5/11/86 was at The Wasp Factory, after the novel by Iain Banks. We had a friend who worked at the NME who gave us free ads and I probably wrote it down wrong when I sent him the copy for printing. I met the promoter of the club in New Cross. I was carrying my bass, on my way to Goldsmiths College, and he came out of a shop, and asked me if I was in a band and did I want to play the opening night of his new club. A bit odd but that was the eighties, before the Internet and mobile phones, so you just approached people on the street I guess.” Chris Groothuizen
